What is Steel Scaffolding

Steel scaffolding is similar to mason scaffolding. It consist of steel tubes instead of wooden members. In such scaffolding, standards are placed at a space of 3m and are connected with the help of steel tube ledgers at a vertical interval of 1.8m.

Steel scaffolding consist of:

  1. Steel tubes 1.5 inch to 2.5 inch diameter.
  2. Coupler or clamps to hold pipe in different positions.
  3. Prop nuts to hold single pipe.
  4. Bolts, nuts and washers.
  5. Wedge and Clips.

Advantages of Steel scaffolding:

  1. Can be used for larger heights.
  2. Durable and Strong.
  3. Can be assembled easily.
  4. Higher fire resistance.

Disadvantages of Steel scaffolding:

  1. Higher initial cost.
  2. Skilled labor is required.
  3. Periodical painting is necessary.
