At present, most of the scaffolding pipes used in China are Q195 welded pipes, Q215, Q235, and other common carbon steels. However, scaffolding steel pipes in developed countries abroad generally use low alloy steel pipes. Compared with ordinary carbon steel pipes, the yield strength of low alloy steel pipes can be increased by 46%, the weight is reduced by 27%, the atmospheric corrosion resistance is increased by 20% to 38%, and the service life is increased by 25%. The domestic construction industry also has a huge demand for construction scaffolding made of low-alloy high-strength welded pipes, but there are not many manufacturers. Experts analyze the three major benefits of using low alloy steel pipes to replace ordinary carbon steel pipes:
First, it can reduce construction costs for construction companies. The price per ton of low-alloy steel pipes is 25% higher than that of ordinary carbon steel pipes, but the price per meter can be 13% lower. At the same time, due to the lightweight of low-alloy steel pipes, the transportation cost savings are also considerable.
Second, a lot of steel can be saved. Using φ48mm×2.5mm low-alloy steel pipes to replace φ48mm×3.5mm ordinary carbon steel pipes can save 270 kilograms of steel for every 1 ton replaced. In addition, low-alloy steel pipes have good corrosion resistance and long service life, which is beneficial to saving steel and improving economic benefits.
Third, due to the lightweight and good physical and mechanical properties of low-alloy steel pipe scaffolding, it can not only reduce the labor intensity of workers and improve the labor environment but also improve the efficiency of assembly and disassembly construction, creating good conditions for construction safety and the development of new scaffolding. Therefore, replacing ordinary carbon steel pipe scaffolding with low alloy steel pipe scaffolding has significant economic and social benefits. At the same time, the general trend of scaffolding and vertical lifting equipment is to develop in the direction of lightweight and high-strength structure, standardization, assembly, and multi-function. The erection process will gradually adopt assembly methods, minimizing or eliminating fasteners, bolts, and other parts; the materials will also gradually adopt thin-walled steel, aluminum alloy products, etc. There are also innovations in the form of vertical lifting equipment such as derricks, which have evolved from derricks to gantry hoisting frames, rail-type vertical hoppers, etc. The assembly method has evolved from a single rod assembly to making the derrick into standard sections of a certain height for assembly, and then to a folding lifting frame that can be quickly set up, dismantled, and hauled as a whole.
Scaffolding tubes are mostly used for building supports. As a major steel-producing country, there is still a long way to go to improve the structure of steel types that are related to people’s livelihoods.
